Prayers for Depression and Hopelessness
I don’t know about you, but when I’m depressed, the last thing I want to do is pray. Just being honest. But prayer is powerful, and these prayers for depression and hopelessness are meant to help when life feels dark.
I just want to encourage you, even if you feel hopeless, God sees you, hears you, and He wants to meet you in your pain.
When I’m depressed, I have to tell myself:

These prayers are written for when you feel so numb inside that you don’t have words to express yourself. I pray that they will give you hope.

A Prayer When You Feel Like You Can’t Go On
Heavenly Father,
I come to you weary, burdened, asking for help. I can’t go on any longer. I pray that you give me peace of mind, peace in my heart, and let me know that you are with me in trouble. Father, your word says that you are close to the brokenhearted and you save those who are crushed in spirit. I pray that you heal the pain I feel inside. I pray for renewed hope, peace, joy, and strength. Please carry the burdens I have. Give me strength. Thank you, Lord, for listening to my prayer. Help me to believe with you that everything is possible, that you are with me through the storms I’m going through.

A Prayer When You Feel Like Giving Up
Dear heavenly father,
I want to give up right now. There are so many obstacles in front of me and so many mountains to climb in my life. Please help me to keep going even when things look impossible.
Your word says that those who wait on the Lord will renew their strength, they will mount on wings like eagles, they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint. I pray this scripture over my life and ask You to renew my strength today.
Father, help me not to give in to hopelessness. You are the God of the universe, and you are on my side. Let me know, and believe that you will help me with what I’m facing.

A Prayer for a Hopeless Situation
Dear heavenly father,
I feel like I am in a dark pit with no way out. Heaviness clouds over me. I feel like I’m walking in darkness. I don’t know what to do. Father, even in this burden, I know that You are with me.
I pray that you would pull me out of this pit, dispel this darkness in my life, and help me see the light again. I ask for your guidance, deliverance, and wisdom on what to do. Turn this situation around for the glory of Your name.
Father, You said in Your Word, when I call upon You in the day of trouble, You will deliver me, and I will honor You. I pray for a way where there seems to be no way. Make every crooked place straight, the rough ways plain, so that I can walk in the path You have for me.
If I must go through this trial for a season, then I pray that I would do it in faith. I want to be patient in the storm. You are my refuge and my fortress, my ever-present help in times of trouble, and I trust you will come through for me.

A Prayer When You Feel Numb
Father,
I feel completely numb. I don’t care about anything in my life. I feel like I’m just existing, so disconnected from everything and everyone. The days are the same, endless monotony.
Right now, I turn to you. Take away all the pain, numbness, and despair I feel. Draw me close to You, fill me with Your Holy Spirit. Your word says the Holy Spirit is the comforter. I pray for that comfort right now.
Please forgive me for my sins and search my heart. If there’s anything in life that I have to give up, I pray you would show me. I do not want to stay stuck in despair. I want to feel alive again. Open the right doors for my life and close the wrong ones. I pray for sudden, unexpected hope to spring up in my life, that everything in my life would change for good.

A Prayer for Anxiety and Depression
Dear Heavenly Father,
I cast everything that weighs heavily on my mind to you, all the burdens I’ve been carrying. Please heal all past emotional wounds in life that have made me anxious. I pray you would break the strongholds of anxiety and depression in my life. I pray to be delivered from anxiety and fear.

A Prayer When God Feels Far Away
Lord,
Forgive me for the times when, in my pain, I did not turn to you first, but turned to the world to heal the pain I feel inside. Right now, I feel so alone its hard to feel close to you. I want to feel your presence in my life. And to have a stronger relationship with you, but I don’t know how, and you seem so far away.
I know You say you will never leave me or forsake me. Give me motivation to keep praying and reading my Bible, even if it looks like nothing in my life is changing. You promise in your word that when I draw close to you, close to me.
Please help me keep seeking You, even in this dry and distant season. Bring me back to a place of closeness with You, and let me feel the comfort of Your presence again.

A Prayer for Healing from Depression and Hopelessness
Dear Jesus,
I thank you for dying for me on the cross. You know what it’s like to suffer and feel pain. You went through unimaginable pain to save me, and it is because of what you did that I can be free.
I declare your word over my life that by your stripes I am healed. Please free me from depression, anxiety, and the heaviness that weighs me down. You see everything, you know how I struggle to wake up in the morning. You understand how I feel better than anyone else.
Please help me hold on to my hope in you and see beyond my situation. Though my life feels hopeless, You can make a way in the wilderness and turn deserts into rivers in an instant. I ask for supernatural intervention in my life.
Lord, I pray for a new thing in my life. Instead of despair, hope. Instead of anxiety, peace. Instead of depression, joy. I pray for peace that passes all understanding to guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus.
Lord, please heal me mentally, emotionally, and physically. Through this suffering, I pray that my faith would get stronger and I would grow closer to You. Thank you that when I’m in distress, I can call out to You, and you answer and deliver me.

A Prayer for Strength to Get Through Today
Dear Heavenly Father,
Today feels heavy. I do not feel strong. Give me strength for the things I need to face today. Help me not to rely on my own strength, but I pray that I would rely on Yours.
Help me not to put pressure on myself but to do things one at a time, depending on you. Give me grace for each moment today. Give me energy when I feel weary and help me to keep going.
Thank you that you don’t leave me in my struggle. But You give me the strength I need to face the day.

A Short Prayer for Depression and Hopelessness
Father,
I constantly feel down, and depression weighs heavily on me. Remind me of the times in my life that you’ve come through for me. You are good, and you said in Your word that you would work out all things for my good.
I pray that the bad in life would turn around. I reject anxiety, hopelessness, fear, and mental stress. I pray for restoration in life, restoration from everything that depression has stolen from me. I pray that I would wake up in the morning with hope and freedom, and that I would feel joy in my life.

A Prayer for Hope in Depression and Hopelessness
Father,
I can’t see any hope in my life. The days have been nothing but fear and struggle, but You knew I would be in this dark place right now. In Your word, you say you have plans to prosper me, not to harm me, but to give me a future and hope. Even though I can’t see right now, help me to believe it.
Thank you, Father, for the unshakable promises in your word. If I must go through this trial that feels never-ending, then I pray that I would be patient, keeping my hope in you, remembering your promises in the Bible. I pray for complete deliverance from depression. I plead the blood of Jesus over my mind, body, and emotions, over anything that is causing me to feel hopeless.
You are the God of all hope. I pray that I would keep my mind on you during this time, because when I do, You promise in your word that will give me peace that passes all understanding. Father, I praise and glorify your name, and I thank you for staying with me in this season. I place my pain, worries, and anxieties into your hands, and I release what I have been carrying.

Bible Verses for Depression and Hopelessness
Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God. (Psalm 43:5)
In my distress I called to the LORD; I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came before him, into his ears. (Psalm 18:6)

Even in Depression and Hopelessness, God Is Near
Depression and hopelessness can make it seem like God has left you, but He hasn’t.
I know that in depression, it can be hard to press into God and pray when you feel so low and weighed down, but God has not abandoned you. He is with you even in this darkness in your life. Keep praying and bringing your pain to Him.
